Scottish courts will have the ability to remove domestic abusers from the home they share with a partner after MSPs voted unanimously to pass further protections for victims. The Domestic Abuse (Protection) (Scotland) Bill, allowed courts to implement domestic abuse protections orders (DAPO) which place restrictions on a person accused of domestic abuse.

The Bill, which passed stage three today, March 17, includes prohibiting contact with their accuser or being removed from a shared home.

Police will also have the power to issue domestic abuse protections notices (DAPN) which will have the same restrictions as DAPOs in the shorter term before a case can come before a court.
